Soil Investigation
HEI performs all levels of soil investigations/evaluations. There are four levels of soil investigations that can be used to evaluate a parcel for onsite waste water disposal.
Level 1 soil investigations are a very basic reconnaissance level investigation used to determine general soil suitability on a tract of land. This is typically applicable to a developer that is in the discovery phase in determining if a property generally well suited for development. This is the least expensive and least intensive level of study.
A Level 2 soil investigation is also a reconnaissance level investigation but is of much more detail. This investigation not only addresses soil suitability but also provides some specific site soil characteristics and classification with individual soil types mapped on the property. This investigation is limited, but it is a good level of study to provide for a quality preliminary development plan.
A Level 3 soil investigation is much like the Level 2 in the information and soil mapping provided. However, the Level 3 is of much more detail with very specific soil classification and mapping. This Level of study is required in all counties in Georgia to obtain a permit for an on-site sewage management system. Upon reviewing the results of the Level 3 soil investigation, a local environmental health department could require that a Level 4 soil investigation be performed on the property or portion of the property.
The Level 4 soil investigation is a special study performed at the request of the environmental health department. This investigation is performed in a specific area on the property where an on-site sewage management system is likely to be installed. Usually the health department requests this level of investigation if the Level 3 has shown soils with shallow depths to a water table, bedrock or if a very intense delineation of soil types is required.
HEI has extensive education, training and experience in performing soil investigations. A thorough knowledge of state regulations coupled with solid relationships with county health departments in most of north Georgia gives our clients an advantage in seeing their project move through the permitting and planning processes.
Soil Investigations for community waste water disposal systems:
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division regulates and permits large community subsurface waste water disposal systems and surface application of waste water. Site specific soil investigations are required to permit these types of systems and vary from the requirements of individual onsite disposal systems.
HEI has extensive education, training and experience in performing soil investigations for large subsurface community systems as well as large land application systems. A thorough knowledge of state regulations gives our clients an advantage in seeing their project move through the permitting and planning processes.
